If a pathlist is omitted, the standard input path is used. The output is written to standard output. This command is commonly used to examine the contents of non-text files. </para> <para> The data is displayed 16 bytes per line in both hexadecimal and ASCII character format. Data bytes that have non-displayable values are represented by periods in the character area. </para> <para> The addresses displayed on the dump are relative to the beginning of the file.
